Vurnell Gilbreath passed into the presence of the Lord on Friday, September 2, 2022, at the age of 95, unconditionally loved by her family.
Vurnell Hill was born to the late Elbert Hill and Rosie Johnson-Hill on October 3, 1926, in LaGrange TX.
She moved to Amarillo, TX to later marry her late husband Edward Van Gilbreath, Sr. and to this union were 12 children. She worked as a caretaker for a short time, but her pastime was caring for others and supporting her children and grandchildren. She played dominoes with her family and didn’t miss many of her grandkids’ sports. Although she birthed 12 children, she has been a mother and “Nanny” to many young people in the North Heights community.
Sister Gilbreath was a faithful and active member of Greater Mt. Olive Baptist Church until her heath declined.
Her and her husband provided a foundation for their family, which has led to a strong & unbreakable “Family Bond”.
She leaves to carry on her legacy her children, daughters, Dorothy Conict, Pearlie Penns (Mack), Gloria Gilbreath, Beverly Gilbreath, Linda Gilbreath-Perry, Sheila Gilbreath-Lax (Nate), Gilda “Shan” Gilbreath of Amarillo TX, and sons, Maurice Gilbreath of Amarillo, TX and Orlando “Chop” Gilbreath of Houston, TX, her sister, Bertha Bowers of Amarillo, TX, a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and one great-great-great grandchild. She was also a loving aunt to many.
