Victor "Pee-Paw" Obituary

Victor Neal Mitchell was born August 21, 1960 to Hershel and Lena Mitchell in Colorado Springs, CO.  He was the youngest of 14 children having four brothers and nine sisters.

Victor, also known as the “Chocolate Moose”, “Tiny”, and “The Gentle Giant”, graduated Amarillo High School in 1978 where he was a standout basketball player.  He continued his basketball career at Amarillo College, the University of Kansas, and Wayland Baptist.  While at Kansas he was a player on the 1981 Elite 8 team and some of his records at Amarillo College still stand to this day.  Victor graduated from Amarillo College with a degree in Computer Science and later used his degree to establish a successful career as a computer technician.

In 1981, he married Demitress Maynor and to this union two children were born, a daughter, Velena “Sweetheart” and a son, William “Tank”.  In 2001 he became father-in-law to Myron Sims and in 2009 to Amber Dalton.  In 2014, God continued to grow his family and he became the best Pee-Paw to his first grandchild, Brileigh, followed by Carlynn in 2016, and in 2021 he eagerly awaited the arrival of his first grandson, Mytchell.

Victor had many hobbies.  He of course enjoyed basketball and would engage in “basketball talk” with anyone who would talk it back.  He also enjoyed throwing down on the BBQ grill and being in the kitchen making some of the best chili anyone has ever had.  He liked listening to music, watching movies, fishing and gaming, but most of all, he loved spending time with his family and giving back to the community as a volunteer for the Black Chamber of Commerce.

Victor’s love for Jesus and faith in the Lord was established at an early age.  Because of this, his family takes comfort in knowing that he is completely wrapped in His arms.

Victor is preceded in death by his father and mother, his brother, David, and three sisters, Frankie Jo, Vera Lee, and Brenda.  He leaves to cherish his memory, his children and grandchildren, his siblings: Morris (Nadine “Squeak”), Hershel Charles, Fred (Karen), Carol (Dana), Darlena, Fransetta, Betty, Margaret (Ralph), and Connie, three close friends that he considered brothers, Kevin Parker, Tim Gassaway and David Shaffer, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
