Verna Dine “Top” Burns (Proby) was born on January 9, 1954, to George and Nuggie Proby in Quanah, Texas. She was baptized at an early age.
Verna finished high school and furthered her education by becoming a nurse at Amarillo College. She was united in holy matrimony later in life to Robert Burns on February 14, 2002, and two families became united.
Verna was never judgmental. She was loving, encouraging, and a gentle soul. She was very proud of all her children and loved being around family and friends. Her favorite hobbies were bingo, sewing, and being an entrepreneur. On August 24, 2023, Verna Burns departed her earthly life and entered eternal rest.
She is preceded in death by his father, George Proby; mother, Nuggie Moore; sisters, Evleyn Proby and Lula Pearl; and son, Derek Graves.
Cherished memories will linger in the hearts of those who knew and loved her: husband of 21 years, Robert Burns; five sons, Sean Burns of Atlanta, Georgia, Antonio and Tina Graves of Amarillo, Texas, Robert (Tameka) Burns of Monroe, Louisiana, Lorenzo C. Graves III of Amarillo, Texas, and Reggie Woods of Amarillo, Texas; four daughters, Sharon Burns of Shreveport, Louisiana, Angelia and Celestine Ezeobele of Midland, Texas, Sable Graves of Amarillo, Texas, and April Michelle Woods of Amarillo, Texas; eight granddaughters and eight grandsons; a few great-grandchildren; two sisters, Nuggie Woods of San Antonio, Texas, and Sandra Morris of Amarillo, Texas; three sisters-in-law, Irene Askew (Charles) of Dallas, Texas, Teena Wilson of Shreveport, Louisiana, and Ruby Menyweathers of Dallas, Texas; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
