Tracey Matthews Obituary

Tracey Matthews was born January 7, 1968, in Memphis, TX to Linda Divorce and Starlin Johnson, Sr.

He moved to Amarillo in 1978 and attended Travis Middle School and Palo Duro High School. He loved wrestling. He worked at Leading Edge Aviation for 13 years where he enjoyed his occupation, painting planes.

Tracey met the love of his life Tonya Matthews in 2005 and they were married on June 22, 2013. They welcomed the birth of their son Tradon on January 2, 2010. Tracey will be remembered as a dedicated husband, dad/pops, and provider for his household. Tracey and Tonya enjoyed life with each other.

He fulfilled his dream of owning his own business when he opened Tracey’s Bubbles and Detail in 2009. For 12 years, he served the Amarillo community providing great service to his customers. Tracey loved fishing, attending church, playing with his RC Cars, BBQ, chess, and dominos with his closest friends. A man of faith, Tracey rededicated his life to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in 2019. He was baptized at the Mount of Blessings Seventh Day Adventist Christian church on June 26, 2020, along with his wife, youngest son Tradon, and his youngest daughter Kionna. His faith in the Lord never wavered during his illness. He loved the Lord Jesus with all his heart until his last day.

He has left his family with many wonderful members to cherish. He is survived by his wife: Tonya Matthews, mother: Linda Divorce, father: Starlin Johnson, Sr., daughters: Maya Ford of Fort Worth, TX; Mardilen Matthews of Amarillo, TX; Tracey Dawn Matthews of Fort Worth, TX; Tramika Matthews of Amarillo, TX; Shelby Matthews of Amarillo, his sons: Demarcus Matthews of Amarillo, TX; Trey Matthews of Amarillo, TX; Tracey Matthews, Jr. of Amarillo, TX; Tradon Matthews of Amarillo, TX; and 11 beautiful grandchildren, his siblings: Shelia “Michael” Fields of San Diego, CA; Vickey “Chris” Williams of Memphis, TX; Wallace Johnson of Memphis, TX; Casey Matthews of Amarillo, TX; Anthony (Angela) Johnson of Amarillo, TX; Starlin Johnson Jr. of Amarillo, TX; two stepbrothers Jerry Hill and Bobby “Ben” Hill. He will be missed by a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and an untold number of friends. The family would like to extend a special thanks to BSA Palliative Care Nurse Tonya Fields and BSA Hospice of the Southwest. As a family, we sincerely acknowledge every kind deed and expression and of love to us during this difficult time. May God bless each of you - Tracey Matthews Family.
