Tashara Shay Lewis

Tashara “Shay” Lynelle Lewis was born on December 29, 1980, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, to the proud parents of Doreen Lewis and Jeffery McCullough. Growing up, she attended Star Elementary School, Telstak Elementary School, and Rogers Middle School. In 1995, she moved to Amarillo, Texas with her aunt, Debra Lewis. She then attended Palo Duro High School. Her immediate family moved to Amarillo in 1996. She then took college courses at the school of Milan and received her phlebotomist license while taking medical assistance classes.

In the fall of 2020, she went back to school to pursue an associate's degree in applied science of social work. She later obtained a job with the Department of Human Services. Later, she worked at Amarillo Independent School District as a substitute teacher, where she was loved by all of the students and staff.

Tahara was preceded in death by her grandfather, Calvin Lewis.

She leaves to cherish her memories: her children, Tyrin Lewis, Tashanna Cook, and “twins,” Carey and Carey’ona Lewis; sister, Ebony Lewis; two brothers, Steve Lewis and Jeffery McCullough, Jr.; parents, Doreen Lewis and Jeffery McCullough, Sr.; grandmother, Annette Lewis; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was a very giving and loving person who wore her heart on her sleeve, and she will truly be missed.
