Tanya “Michelle” Roland, 62, of Amarillo, TX, passed away peacefully on March 5, 2025, in Amarillo, TX. Born in Wellington, Texas, Michelle was the cherished daughter of the late Johnnie Williams and Calvin Roland Sr. Not only is Michelle a proud graduate of Palo Duro High School in Amarillo, Tx she also earned her Bachelor of Education from Paul Quinn College in Waco, TX. She began her career as an educator in Waco, TX before returning to Amarillo, where she dedicated herself to her community.
Michelle spent the last years of her life happily retired, without a want or need in the world. In her early years she was a member of New Hope Baptist Church of Amarillo, TX. She later transferred her membership of New Light Ministries, where she served as an usher and faithful member of New Light Ministries all the way up until her departure.
A dedicated and loving member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Michelle embraced life with passion and unforgettable style. You never caught her without her pearls and bedazzled outfits and accessories; she even slept in them. She always said, “You don’t gotta get ready when you stay ready.” Her answer to every challenge was “pray about it,” and she would pray with and for you. Always supportive of everyone she knew, Michelle shared endless conversations about how proud she was of her friends as she watched them grow over social media. Her home was a vibrant reflection of her spirit, filled with pink and green pearls and mirrors. When people would ask about all the mirrors, she’d say, “Why would I put a picture when I can look at myself?”
Michelle’s love for life extended to enjoying concerts, traveling, shopping, and trying new foods. Her generous spirit and heartfelt declarations of “I LOVE YOU” left an indelible mark on all who knew her.
Michelle was preceded in death by her parents; Calvin Roland, Sr. and Johnnie Williams, and her stepfather Herbert Williams, the father who raised her. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Calvin Roland, Jr, Herbert “Tron” Williams.
Michelle is survived by her devoted daughters, Kianya Jeffries (Seattle, WA) Kini & Kinia Satterfield (Fort Worth,TX). She also leaves behind her loving sisters, Mia Williams; Tia Williams; four grandchildren, Arianna Jeffries, Carter Jeffries, Karlee Jeffries (from Kianya), and Carson Chun (from Kini). Michelle’s warmth, love, and kind spirit will be remembered by all who knew her.
She leaves behind a legacy of compassion and a family who will forever cherish her memory.
