Stephanie Gilbreath, born November 18, 1960, and passed on April 17, 2026, was a beloved daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. She was crowned Miss Black Amarillo and made history as the first Black violinist in Amarillo City Orchestra, first chair. Graduating with honors from Amarillo High in 1979, she carried her brilliance into every facet of life.
A pillar of strength, she uplifted everyone and bonded our family with her dedication and love. An avid reader and natural comedian, she kept us laughing and moving forward. Her intelligence and love are cherished by her family, friends, and community.
She is preceded by her sisters Ethel Jean Johnson, Johnnie Delores Sanders, Bobby Lee Griffin, Bessie Mae Crain, her mother Artie Mae Griffin, her father Billy Benton, and her aunt Mae Della Bradley.
She is survived by her older sister Georgette Greene (and her husband Deon Greene), along with nieces, nephews, and grandnieces and nephews, who carry her legacy of love, laughter, and brilliance.
