The loving Ruby Nell Norman passed away Wednesday, February 11, 2026, surrounded by her loving family at the sweet age of 71.
Ruby Nell was born April 1, 1954, to Edgar Joe Cofer, Sr. and Ruby Pearl Burgess in Amarillo, Texas. She attended Carver School.
Ruby had several occupations throughout her life and her love for people led her to each occupation. In her earlier years she worked at Glenns Grocery Store then she went to work at Levis. She later started working at St. Anthony’s Hospital where they later merged into BSA Hospital. Her love for health care led her to her final place of employment until retirement, Quail Creek Surgical Hospital with a staff she grew to love. She worked a strong 51 years, and her work was finally done.
She was a faithful member of New Birth Bible Fellowship under the leadership of Pastor E.J. Cofer and a faithful choir member. Ruby loved going to church every chance she had. She loved going with her church family to visit other churches.
Ruby often reminded people that she was born on fools’ day, but she was not no fool. She loved to love people and if you knew her you knew what her love felt like. Ruby didn’t really have friends this being because if she knew you, you automatically became a family member. She showed her love through hugs and issues. She gave the best kisses, and you knew that if you ever crossed her path. She was everyone’s mother or auntie.
She raised a lot of young men and women. She was well respected and loved. People that knew her knew they were safe and loved. Her house was your house.
Ruby was preceded in death by her father, Edgar Joe Cofer, Sr.; mother, Ruby Pearl Burgess; stepfather, James Wilford Barrett; grandparents, Gibson and Violet Swain; granddaughter, Estlyn Sha’Kil Reed; brother, Fredrick Earl Barrett; sisters, Dorothy Fay Graham and Jennifer Lynn Moore.
Ruby memories will be cherished forever by her children; James Cofer, Shawn Cofer, Tausia Cofer (Damien), Noble Washington (Derrick), Ossie Barnes, Demarkus Morrow, and too many others to name; five brothers, Edgar Cofer, Jr. (Racheal), Tasso Cofer, Christopher Barrett (Fabrian), Billy Joe Cofer, Edgar Cofer; two sisters, Carol Burgess (Johnny) and Brenda Freeman (Tim); sixteen grandchildren, Misty, Leslie, Gibson, ShaDona, Breontasia, Desmon, Kwavilyshun, Yndigo, Tasmon, Dwight, Dekendrick, Mckenzie, Christian, Caz’Jmon, Michael, Dexter; five great grandchildren, Am’bishun, Kaimarley, Leilani, A’riyaleigh, Avience, and a host of other family members and friends.
