Michael McKay Obituary

Michael Ray McKay was born on December 18, 1953, in Amarillo, Texas, to Katie and J.C. McKay, and returned to be with the Lord on May 23, 2026.

Michael is survived by his beloved partner of many years, Rosezetta Packer; his brother Jeffrey McKay and wife Vanitha; his daughters Mischia Rae Farrer and Mieko Racquel McKay; his son Marlin Kendrick McKay; his grandson Jordi Oliver Farrer; his granddaughters Maelyn Laney McKay, Madisyn Leigh McKay, and Kolanie McKay Fleurimont; along with a host of family and friends.

Michael’s passing leaves a deep absence in the hearts of those who knew and loved him, especially Rosezetta Packer, his life partner and companion of many years. Michael and Rosezetta built a life together rooted in love, enduring loyalty, laughter, and the comfort of knowing one another. They shared life side by side through travels together, with music playing in the background, and countless moments that became extraordinary simply because they belonged to them.

Michael thanked God for allowing him to witness the wonderful milestones in the lives of his children and grandchildren. He cherished them through phone conversations, visits, dining out together, videos and pictures of special occasions including birthdays, recitals, proms, and graduations, as well as attending his son’s trumpet concerts.

Michael shared a deep bond with his sister and brothers, nurturing and caring for them as they grew up together. He also enjoyed spending time with his cousins – laughing, relaxing, and playing dominos. They were there for him when needed, and he was always there for them.

Michael was a Christian, a private man, quiet and soft-spoken, who knew the Word of the Lord. He spent many nights reading the Bible from beginning to end. He was never one to seek attention, yet people noticed him anyway. He carried a quiet confidence, strong opinions, great taste, and a style that was unmistakably his own. Michael was known for being a sharp dresser and for wearing aromatic colognes. He enjoyed good food and chocolate, browsing at cars, watching sports, and traveling. Michael had even created a list of relatives and places around the world he hoped to visit and experience.

Michael attended many reunions and family gatherings, where he enjoyed being with loved ones and provided the music as the DJ – a role he loved. Music was one of Michael’s greatest joys and it brought him peace. He loved all kinds of music, but old-school music lived in his soul. Michael knew how to set the mood with music, and many cherished memories were made with him choosing what played next. During retirement, he enjoyed taking piano lessons. He also had a dream of owning an entertainment center so he could share his love of music with others.

As a young child, Michael lived in Canton, Ohio, where he loved picking blueberries and raspberries to snack on while walking to church. He attended North Heights Elementary, Carver School, Hereford Junior High, Palo Duro High School – where he ran track – and Amarillo College for a period of time. Michael dedicated 45 years of service to Pantex and made lifelong friendships there and they often referred to him by the nickname 'Juice'.

Michael cared deeply for Rosezetta’s mother and shared a special bond with her nieces and nephews. Together, he and Rosezetta created an environment where many childhood memories were made – filled with warmth, fun, laughter, relaxation, and a sense of belonging.

For Rosezetta, Michael was home. Their story stretched across many years and was built on love, friendship, resilience, and devotion. Through every season of life, they remained side by side. The bond they shared leaves a lasting imprint, and his absence will be very deeply felt.

Michael was preceded in death by his mother, Katie McKay; his father, J.C. McKay; his sister, Cheyenne Wheatley; and his brothers Dave McKay and Patrick McKay.

Michael will be remembered for his Christian faith, his private nature, his love of music, his unmistakable style, and for the warmth and joy he brought to the people he loved. Michael showed love in his own way, often quietly. Even without many words, the people closest to him felt it. He will be missed deeply and remembered with great affection by all who knew him.
