Marva Jean (Birdine) Matthews

Marva Jean was born on September 4, 1951, in Quanah, TX, to Mabel Birdine and Horace Wherry. She was the fourth of five children.

Marva proudly attended Carver Highschool and was a graduate of Amarillo High School, Class of 1969. Soon after graduation, she met and married the love of her life, Donald Elijah Matthews Sr. To this union, four children were born-Bridgette, Melinda, Sherri, and Donald Jr.

A faithful member of New Birth Bible Fellowship under the leadership of Pastor Edgar J Cofer, Jr., Marva loved her church family dearly. She was a talented singer and was the life and light of every party. She was a giver by nature, never met a stranger, and was an absolute joy to all who knew and loved her.

Marva was preceded in death by her mother and father, Mabel Birdine and Horace Wherry, two brothers: John "Phil" Birdine and Horace Wherry, and beloved daughter, Sherri Martin.

She leaves precious memories forever etched in the hearts of Donald Matthews Sr., her husband of 51 years, 2 daughters, Bridgette (Kevin), and Melinda (Taiwan), a son, Donald Jr., her sisters; Doris Faye Smith (Paul), Shirley Clark (Gary), Debra Wherry, Gwen Wherry (Ronnie), two brothers; Eddie Norice and Bo Wherry. 2 bonus daughters; Elana and Toni, 14 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and a host of family and friends.
