Marilyn Mills Obituary

Life is like an open book, with blank pages for each day as we live. Our deeds are recorded until we close our eyes to death, waiting on that great getting up morning. The final pages of the book for Marilyn Mills finished on December 1, 2023. Marilyn was born September 30, 1954, to the late Barclay Benard and Helen Benard. Marilyn was born in Winnsboro, Texas, and raised in Amarillo, Texas. She attended Catholic school during her elementary years, as well as Carver and Palo Duro High School, where she graduated in 1971. She attended Amarillo College of Hairdressing and became a licensed cosmetologist. She was employed at Levi Strauss, until its closure, and Asarco where she retired in 2020.

She became a Seventh-Day Adventist at the age of twenty, where she served in many capacities. She sang in the choir and blessed us with many solos, where she poured out her heart and soul and blessed us. She loved cooking, baking, gardening, and was an avid animal lover. To know her was to love her. She would give you her last and always wanted to help when she saw a need, whether it was monetary or taking care of someone. She is going to be greatly missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Barclay Benard and Helen Benard; sisters, Norma Pruitt and Nancy Alexander and brother, Terry Lemons.

She was survived by: her sons, John K. Mills (Veronica) and Alphonso Mills; daughter, Lakesha Mills; sisters, Gwendolyn Osibanjo, Donnise Richardson, Renee Richardson, and Lonette Richardson; brother, Billy Don (Elsie) Martin; twenty-one grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren and a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives, and friends.
