Mr. Jerry Donell “Juju” Mathis was born July 10, 1954, to parents, Alton Moriece Mathis in Amarillo, Texas. He attended St. Martin de Porres Catholic, Hilltop Elementary, Carver Jr. and Sr. High School and Amarillo High School in Amarillo, Texas. He received his associate degree from Amarillo College and attended West Texas State University. He entered the work field at Technical Spray as the payroll manager. He retired from Clement Prison in medical records. He united with Mt. Olive Baptist Church at an early age under the leadership of the late Rev. Vernon Spencer, as well the late Rev. V.P. Perry. He continued with Mt. Olive under Rev. Morris Mitchell. He was a member of the gospel choir and brotherhood. He attended until his health failed. He loved attending brotherhood and teachers meeting on Monday nights.
Jerry departed this life on December 14, 2022, at home in Amarillo, TX.
Jerry leaves to cherish his memories and carry on his legacy his mother: Mable Smith, Amarillo; brothers, Derrick Mathis (Veronica) Lakeland, Florida; sister, Carolyn Mathis Meeks (Robert), Edgecliff Village, TX; nephew and nieces, Derrick Mathis ,Jr (Andrea) Waco, TX, Vivian Bailey Wilson (Woodrow), Waco, TX, Victoria Wilson (Kelton), Amarillo, TX, Tomiko Henderson (Governor) Pearlane, TX, Tamla Marion (Cyril), Arlington, TX, Tonesha Meeks, Fort Worth, TX; and great grand nephews and nieces, Dion Governor, Adrain, James Robert, Christopher, Caleb, Osric, Jamely, and Candence; great-great nephews and nieces, Domimic, Legend, Karrington, Kierstynn, Hasrper and Navy; special extended family to both Jerry and mother, Betty Love, Carplynn Greene, Patsy Swain, Sylvania Jeffery, Renee, James Green and a host of cousins, church family, other relatives and friends.
