Jannie Hendrix Obituary

Jan was born on July 23, 1956, in Quitaque, Texas, to Cecil and Mae Lou Hendrix. Jan was one of 10 children, and though her early life was shaped by the love and support of her large family, it was her role as a mother and grandmother that de ned her.

Jan attended Quitaque Elementary and Valley High School where she played and excelled in both basketball and volleyball until she graduated in 1975. Jan attended Macedonia Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Reverend Bennie Anderson. She was blessed with a God given anointed voice which she used as a lead singer in the choir. She later relocated to Amarillo, Texas
where she joined and attended New Hope Baptist Church and later began attending the Kingdom Hall.

Jan attended Amarillo College with the goal of becoming a registered nurse, but her path was forever altered by a car accident that changed her life. Despite the challenges, she remained strong and continued to focus on her family. She frequently remarked that her career path as a nurse felt predestined, noting the unique coincidence that her Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) aligned with the initials of her children’s middle names: Annette, Darnell, and Norris.

She was preceded in death by her dad and mom; siblings, Gerald Dean, Cecil Jr., Joe Lee, and Alta (Sista); and special brother-in-law, Richard Cunningham, whom she is probably arguing with right now.

She leaves to cherish her memory: her daughter, Sharunda Hendrix of Amarillo, TX; sons, Joshua Hendrix of Tucson, AZ and Jamey Hendrix of Dallas, TX; one special granddaughter, Mya Nicole Hendrix of Tucson, AZ; three sisters, Louise (Vernon) Rorie of Flint, MI, Susan Ford of Lubbock, TX, and Darlene Cunningham of Amarillo, TX; brothers, Jimmie (Ann) Hendrix of Lubbock, TX and Charles Hendrix of Amarillo, TX; and Howard Newsome, with whom she shared three children and 44 years of love and real friendship. Jan was a person who always saw the beauty in everyone. She gave unceasing compliments and never met a stranger, and if she did, they were not strangers for long. However, whether you had just met her or had known her for years, she would leave you feeling special. Jan was often found with her three children playing games, whether it was dominoes, spades, trouble, or board games. Many a game night went into the early mornings as Jan often would cheat for the underdog and make games last way longer than they should.
