James was born in Amarillo, Texas, on May 26, 1967, to Millie Anderson, his beloved mother. He attended and graduated Palo Duro High School in 1986. He was an amazing athlete where he had succeeded in football, basketball and pole vaulting. As a child, James had a unique look and personality. He was known by a number of nicknames throughout his life. Many of his friends called him by "melow yellow, dirty red, clumsy dumbsy, smiley and wake him up." Then his family given him new nicknames to big baby, papa, pops, daddy, and last, but not least, Coach James. He bragged proudly of his three children Xavier Calhoun, James Anderson II and Tameisha Anderson and his lovely wife, Pamela Anderson, of 38 years. He adored his grandkids Blaze and Ace Anderson and James Anderson III they were the greatest gifts he could have ever asked for and kept him young. In addition, he treated the daughter-in-law, Jaslyn Calhoun, as if she were his own. His passion for sports developed over 30 years into Coach James. He engaged with the young athletes in his neighborhood from "The Little Rebels, The Tarhills, The Margaret Wills Eagles, The San Jacinto Tigers, to the most recent, The Young Gunz and The Little Dons." He took excellent care of all his teams and mentored numerous children whom he saw them blossom into exceptional men and women. He took pleasure in serving as a father-figure and coach. And lastly, his ability for cooking united everyone. At 19 years old, he started his love for cooking at Garsky then continued his career at Northwest Texas Hospital for over 15 years.
