J.L. Route was born April 20, 1933 in Marlin, Texas. Sunset for J.L. Route, better known as,” Mr. Chilli” was August 9, 2020. J.L. Route was raised by his father, Comer Route and his grandmother, Mae Route.
J.L. Route traveled to Shamrock Texas where he met Ruby Lee Polk the woman that later became the love of his life. They were married on November 4, 1961, in Shamrock, Texas. Mr. Route and Mrs. Route later moved to Amarillo Texas where they built a future together as husband and wife. The Routes became pillars of the North Heights community for 59 years.
He is preceded in death by his brothers; L.C. Route and TJ Barnes, sisters; Jewell Louis, Verna Lee Taylor, and Cora Lee Bennett.
Mr. Chilli loved to cook, play dominos, play pool, as well as listening to blues. His favorite artist was BB King. But most importantly, his biggest joy in life was helping people he cared about.
Mr. Route leaves to cherish his memory, his wife; Ruby Lee Route, daughters; Sharry Johnson (Amarillo TX.) and Margaret Thompson (Fort Worth TX.), sons; David Route (Seattle Washington), Michael Route (Fort Worth TX.), Don Route (Killeen TX.), Jerry Thompson (Albuquerque, NM) Also, he leaves a host of nieces and nephews as well as several grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
