Irma Jean English was born on June 6, 1936, to Albert Lewis and Malzina Scroggins-Smith.
Irma Jean received her education at Booker T. Washington School in Conroe, Texas.
From an early age, she developed a strong work ethic and a servant’s heart.
In her younger years, Irma worked faithfully as a home caretaker, often holding more than one position. Her latter years worked at BSA until she retired.
She was a devoted mother, beloved wife, and faithful servant of Jesus Christ. She was the proud mother of five children: daughters Dianne Lusk (Glenn), Leola Westmoreland (deceased 2009), and Debra Lewis; and sons Craig Lewis (Beverly) and Albert Lewis.
She married Offerrell English in 1986, who lovingly cared for her until his passing in 2021.
She was a faithful member of Temple of Praise until her health declined in 2020.
She found great joy in baking, especially her well-known 7-UP pound cakes, which became a ministry of love shared throughout Amarillo.
She leaves to cherish her memory: her children, her brother Lloyd Lewis (Shalynn),
16 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, 7 great-great grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
Irma and her family wish to express their heartfelt gratitude to her caregivers at SkyWest in Amarillo for their genuine care, tender whispers of “I love you,” and the compassion they showed throughout her time with them.
My time has come to an end, and I await to hear, ‘Well done, my faithful servant.’ Let me rest, and you continue forward, running your race. The road is narrow—walk wisely and stay the course.
