H.B. Smith, was born on November 22, 1937 to George and Rommie Smith in Gilmer, Texas. H.B. attended Bruce Elementary School in Gilmer, Texas and North Ward High School in Clarendon, Texas.
After graduating high school, H.B. went into the Armed Forces until he was honorably discharged in 1962. H.B. met and married Dora, his wife of forty-five years until her death in 2005. He then met and married Bessie Carter in December of 2009 and was married to her for twelve years until his passing. H.B. worked for Coca-Cola from 1964-1976 and Asarco 1976-1999 as a lead man. He also loved and worked for Walmart.
H.B. joined Pentecostal Temple and sang in the men’s choir. He loved the Bible Band, he loved cooking and baking for the pastor and church members, and bringing candy for the kids at the church. He loved baking, fishing, and working in his flower beds. He also was an avid reader.
He is preceded in death by his wife: Dora Lee, parents, George and Rommie Smith, two brothers and a sister.
He is survived by his wife: Bessie Smith, three daughters: Jan Smith of Louisville, KY, Connie Clark of Austin, TX; Evelyn McCampbell of New Albany, Indiana, two sons: Troy (Angie) Smith of Dallas, TX; and Gerry (Ann) Smith, Sr., of Amarillo, TX; four stepsons, Meldon Carter of Dallas, TX; Patrick Carter of Oklahoma City, OK, James and Torrance Carter of Tucsan, AZ, sister, Margie Thompson of Houston, TX; and one brother, McKinly Smith of Clarendon, TX, and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, and family members.
