Gracie Asberry was born October 7, 1934, to the late Alma Coleman and Letha Rosser, in Boxelder, Texas. She attended Shawnee Baptist Church in East Texas. She has been a member of New Hope Baptist Church for over 50 years. She worked as a nurse technician in her earlier years; she later settled into being a stay-at-home wife and mother. She enjoyed family, bingo, and church. She was involved in Sunday School, Women’s Missionary Society Circle Three (Debra Circle), and she was part of the Calanthe Wroten High Plain Court # 145.
She married the love of her life, Mr. Willie Asberry, in 1965. May of 2015 marked their 50th wedding anniversary, before Mr. Asberry went home to be with the Lord. Now they are reunited in Heaven.
Preceded in death by: Her husband, Willie E. Asberry; parents Alma and Letha Coleman; siblings Billy Joe Coleman, Charlie Coleman, Ethel Willis, Earline Garvine, Letha Bullock, Odessa Polk; great granddaughter Brittney Watson; great-great granddaughter Za’Kari Marquez.
She leaves to cherish her memories four children, Doris (Danny Brown) Johnson, Rick Akers, Sheila (Rufus) Asberry-Whittaker, Cedric Asberry; stepchildren, Bobby Asberry, Carl Asberry, Jeanetta Asberry-Johnson, Rodney "Spudney" Asberry, and Rene Asberry; six siblings, Eudelle Owens, Emma Willis, Dorothy Hopkins, Alma “Buddy” Coleman, Jr., “RC” Coleman, and Larry Coleman; nine grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren.
