Mrs. Emma Jean (Nelson) Jones was received into the arms of Jesus on November 6, 2022; after having a full life of ninety-four years. She was born in Clarksville, Texas, to her parents Nelse and Edwina Nelson, Sr., on December 29, 1927. She grew up and attended school in Clarksville, Texas. She met and married Melvin Jones, Sr. Through many struggles of life, eventually moved to Amarillo, Texas in 1951, where they made a home.
To their union six children, five daughters and one son. The family joined Greater Mount Olive Baptist Church where she joined the choir and served wherever she was needed, until she no longer was able.
Emma loved baking cakes, sewing and quilting. She even tried to play basketball with the kids.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Jones, Sr., parents, Nelse & Edwina nelson, a newborn, granddaughter, Vennessa Edwards, grandson, Brian Mallory, sisters, Mattie Marie, Josephine, Charlene, Esta, Theola, and Gladys, brothers, Nelse, Jr., Louis, and Fred.
She leaves behind their children, Doris (Carl) Washington, Elsie (Jimmy) Smith, Emma L. Edwards, Connie Mallory, and Melvin Jones, Jr., ten grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends to mourn her passing.
