Ebony was born in 1979 in Memphis, Texas, to his loving mother, Pearly Butler. He grew up in Clarendon, Texas where he attended Clarendon High School. He later moved from Clarendon to Amarillo in the early 2000s. Ebony established his own tree-trimming business, a venture he was deeply proud of for over 12 years. In Amarillo, he met Courtney, who would become his devoted wife of fifteen years.
Ebony lived his life with a vibrant spirit that could never be dimmed. He was a man whose laughter filled the room before he even walked through the door- loud, contagious, and full of joy. He loved hard and poured himself into the people and passions that meant the most to him.
Above all, Ebony cherished his family. His wife Courtney was his partner, his peace, and his motivation. His children were his heart- the reason he strived, the reason he fought, and the reason he smiled even on the hardest days. They were his greatest joy and the legacy he was most proud of. He lit up when he talked about them, and his love for them will continue to live through every memory they hold.
Through the union of Ebony and Courtney, he leaves to cherish his memory fourteen children: Marquis Johnson of Houston, Texas; Ahmaud Johnson Jr. of Amarillo, Texas; Jailynn Johnson of Amarillo, Texas; Brianna Butler of Amarillo, Texas; Zaryia (Dalton) Coleman of Clarendon, Texas; Jada Butler of Clarendon, Texas; Zaevion Johnson of Amarillo, Texas; Eboni Butler of Clarendon, Texas; Collin Butler of Amarillo, Texas; Raina (Salvador) of Amarillo, Texas; Elijah Johnson of Amarillo, Texas; Donjerrian Johnson of Amarillo, Texas; Larry Johnson of Amarillo, Texas; and Tyrique Butler of Wichita Falls, Texas.
Ebony was further blessed with eleven grandchildren: Aryia, Axel, Courmaud, Harmony, Haviyah, Jaxon, Josiah, Khiry, Mia, Wynter, and Yolani, each of whom brought immense joy to his life.
He is lovingly remembered by his devoted mother, Pearly Butler of Clarendon, and his siblings: Latasha Butler of Lubbock, Texas; Geri Butler of Saginaw, Texas; May Butler of Denton, Texas; Michael Butler; Edward Butler (Demetria) of Amarillo, Texas; Robert Butler; Myra Butler of Amarillo, Texas; and Ivan Sledge of Atlanta, Georgia. Their love for him runs deep, shaped by years of shared memories, childhood laughter, hard lessons, and moments only a family can truly understand. Though he is no longer here in body, his spirit will forever remain in their hearts, guiding them, comforting them, and reminding them of the bond that can never be broken.
He also is remembered with profound love by the siblings he grew up alongside- Rodney Smith of Wichita Falls, Texas; Clemmie Smith (Amanda) of Amarillo, Texas; Eric (Christa) Smith of Amarillo, Texas; Erica Danielle Smith of Wichita Falls, Texas; Judge Smith of Lubbock, Texas; Chris (Casey) Smith of Farmerville, Texas; Ben Smith of Amarillo, Texas; and Christy Smith of Wichita Falls, Texas- as well as their mother, Gloria Smith of Wichita Falls, Texas, whose home and guidance were a constant source of love throughout his life. Though not bound by blood, they were his family in every way that mattered.
In addition, Ebony leaves behind a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and many beloved friends who will forever cherish his memory.
Ebony’s story is one of love and legacy. He leaves behind countless moments that will forever echo in the hearts of those who knew him- the sound of his laughter, never left him
Even though his earthly journey has come to an end, the love he gave will never fade, His spirit lives on in his wife, his children, his family, and in every life he touched, May he rest in eternal peace, and may his memory continue to bring light, laughter and love, to all who carry him in their hearts.
