Donnie Joe Morris was born to the late Roy B. Morris and Edna Earl Johnson in Amarillo, Texas on February 16, 1950.
Donnie was a star athlete in track and football at Palo Dura High School in Amarillo, Texas. He played football for the “Mean Green” at the University of North Texas in Denton, Texas. Donnie went on to play professional football for the Dallas Cowboys and the Kansas City Chiefs.
Donnie was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy and worked for the VA Hospital. In his spare-time, Donnie loved to spend time with his loving sister Janice Matthews and with his brother-in-law, Larry. He also loved to spend time with his “babies”, his daughter, Ayo Bruce, son-in-law, Darwin and his beautiful granddaughters, Lauryn and Leighton.
Donnie was preceded in death by his parents, Roy B. Morris and Edna Earl Johnson and his sister, Barbara Morris Johnson and his two brothers, Billy Ray Morris and William McKinley Morris. He leaves to mourn his passing one daughter, Ayo Morris Bruce (Darwin) of Grand Prairie, Texas; two granddaughters, Lauryn and Leighton Bruce of Grand Prairie, Texas; two sisters, Janice Morris Matthews (Larry) of Covington, Georgia and Donna Kay Morris Singletary (Wayne) of Wichita Falls, Texas; one niece, Candace Matthews of Covington, Georgia; two nephews, Rodrick Matthews (Dagmawit) of Dallas, Texas and Edward Princell Morris (Darcel) of Charlotte, North Carolina and other relatives and friends.
