Della Campbell Obituary

Della Mae Campbell was born October 6, 1954, in Mobile, Alabama, to Charlie and Mattie (Madea) Campbell. She was the youngest of nine children, but in true "Della Fashion", she held her own. Della moved to Amarillo in 1955, with her mother. Later that year, the rest of her siblings joined them, and Amarillo became home to the Campbell Family.

She gave her life to Christ at an early age and was a member of Carter Chapel C.M.E. Church in Amarillo. Della graduated from Palo Duro High School, Class of 1973. While in school, Della was known for being a sweet, but also bold and outspoken young woman. She was a fierce athlete on the track field and was an exceptional artist.

Della was no stranger to hard work, a value she instilled in each of her four children. She worked for many years in hospitality and was looking forward to retiring soon after finishing her 12th year with the Arbors.

She always told you the truth, even if it was not what you wanted to hear, but you never had to second guess if it was coming from a good place. Della had a pure heart and an authentic soul, who wanted the best for everyone around her. Though she mostly preferred spending time in solitude, she enjoyed visits from her siblings, grandchildren and going to BINGO with her sisters and late mother.

Della was preceded in death by her parent: Charlie and Mattie (Madea) Campbell, sister: Arbella Weatherly, and brother: James Campbell.

Della will be sorely missed and is survived by her brother: Charlie (Kaye Frances) Campbell, sisters: Darnell Smith, Dorothy (Roy) Tibbs, Cleo (Gerald) Richardson, Bettye (Willie) Shaw, Linda (Ed) Rollins. Her legacy includes her children: Manuel (Shayla) Campbell, Roshanna Campbell, and twin sons: Deon and Dustin (Dontreka) Lyseight, fifteen grandchildren, a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and close friends.

All who loved her dearly, will never forget her tenacity, her infectious laugh, and her unyielding love for her family.
