Joe Minuard King was born August 11, 1954, in Lockney, Texas, to Josephine and Minuard King, Jr. He was the third of 13 children. After graduating from Petersburg High School in 1973, he moved to Amarillo and obtained a degree at TSTI. Joe was employed by IBP (now Tyson) in quality control for many years and then moved on to work for Cooper Transportation for ten years. After leaving there, he went into business for himself and became the proud owner and operator of King’s Trash and Hauling Services. His final job was a groundskeeper for the Ware family before retiring.
Joe was well-known, respected, and loved by all who knew him. Known for wearing his Polo attire, he loved spending time with his family, especially his great-niece, YahYah. Always smiling, he was best known for his detailed yardwork, barbecue chicken, and his love for helping others. Joe’s hobbies included collecting eagles, fishing, reading, going to garage sales, spending quality time with Superintendent Tom E. Jones, Jr. and finding bargains at the thrift store. Affectionally known as the #1 Deacon, Joe was a faithful member of Langston Memorial for over 40 years. He served as the Sunday School Superintendent on the local and district level and was then promoted to the Amarillo Regional Sunday School Superintendent of Texas Northwest Church of God in Christ.
Joe leaves his memories and legacy to be cherished by four brothers, Johnnie King and Tracy King of Amarillo, Jerry King and wife Valorie of Dell City, Oklahoma, and Jack King and wife Mary of Lubbock: four sisters, Carla Thomas and husband Robert, Amy Burns and husband Virgil, Pamela King and Shelia King, all of Amarillo; and a host of nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts, and friends. Although Joe will be deeply missed, he will forever remain in our hearts.
