Cheryl Joyce Watson was the oldest of six children, born in Amarillo, Texas, to the late Weldon G. Watson and Bobbie L. Watson.
Cheryl received her education from Hilltop Elementary, Carver Junior High and Palo Duro High School. She graduated with the Class of 1972. After graduation, Cheryl attended Amarillo College, completing her Associates Degree in 1974. She was employed with Southwestern Public Service/Xcel Energy as an Administrative Assistant I on January 1, 1973, retiring May 12, 2016. Cheryl was a loyal and faithful employee who worked very hard and built many lifelong relationships. In addition to her time at SPS, Cheryl was also employed as an Assistant Store Manager at Taco Villa for several years.
Cheryl was a member of Langston Memorial COGIC where she served under both the late Rev. J.L. Langston and the late Supt. W.C. Thirlkill until marriage. At that time, she joined Pentecostal COGIC under the leadership of the late Supt. Noral C. Coffer, and currently Pastor Elijah B. Demerson. Cheryl worked tirelessly in the church and had a love for serving. She held many offices at Pentecostal COGIC to include General Church Secretary, Sunday School Dept. Secretary, Amarillo District #2 Women’s Dept. Secretary under the leadership of Mother Robbie M. Coffer, Christian Women’s Council member, President of YWCC, Adult Choir President and member, Texas Northwest State Choir member, faithful Bible Band attendee and Tribe Leader. Cheryl, also, enjoyed participating in the annual Christmas in the Hood Choir.
Cheryl was a loving and giving person who enjoyed talking, laughing and just having a great time. She loved people! In the midst of her condition, she continued to express her concern for others, she encouraged and complimented others, wanted to see others doing well, and of course offered advice. She wanted to see everyone, especially her siblings, nieces, and nephews, succeed. She loved celebrating birthdays and the holidays. She made sure to remind us as well. Most of all, Cheryl had a heart for God and lived to please Him. She will be greatly missed by her family and her true friends who loved her and cherished a relationship with her.
Cheryl was preceded in death by her father, Weldon G. Watson.
Cheryl is survived by her mother, Bobbie L. Watson; her siblings, Dennis W. Watson (Donnette) of Guymon, OK, Frances T. Watson, Lora A. Watson and T. Dewayne Watson (Paulina) all of Amarillo, TX, Lisa L. Williams (Eugene) of Denton, TX; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles; a godson, Elijah Demerson II; and her dearest friends.
