It is said that when life begins it is like an open book with may blank pages. Each day as we live, our deeds are recorded page by page until we close our eyes in death and await that great getting up morning. The final pages of the book were written for Cherrie “Don” Pruitt, on February 28, 2021. He was born on September 23, 1941, to Conda and Minnie Pruitt who preceded him in death. He was the youngest of two children a brother Lorell Pruitt, who also preceded him in death.
Don grew up in a rural area of Hopkins County. He attended W.B. Clark High School in Quitman, Texas, where he met Norma Simmons . They were married in 1961 when they moved to Amarillo, Texas.
Don’s professional career as a truck driver included working for many companies until he retired in 2001. At an early age he accepted Jesus Christ and joined New Hope Baptist Church in Como, Texas. Later on in Life, Don joined Mount of Blessing SDA Church.
He leaves to cherish his memory his daughters: Jeannie Pruitt, Alicia White (Ron), and sons: Michael Pruitt, Dontae McCampbell, and Octavia Allen, ten grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends. His best friend of the last twenty-five years of his life, George Hyman.
