Betty Ramsey Obituary

(Doolie, Pumpkin, TT, Aunt Betty, FatMess, My Sister) Betty Jo Ramsey was born January 11, 1957, to Pastor Arthur Jackson Ramsey, Sr., and Mother Eddie Jo (Young) Ramsey in Monahans, Texas. She was the first Black baby born in the hospital there. She was the youngest of three children in this household of love and life. Betty was always considered the quiet one and teachers would frequently try to get her to compete in sports (due to her height). She disliked competing in sports... but would make an exception for the Lakers and the Cowboys. She attended elementary school at Cleveland Brockman Elementary and graduated from Bellaire High School in El Paso, Texas. She continued her education at University of Texas at El Paso and, after relocating to California, she received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Brooks Institute of Santa Barbara in Photography. Betty Jo pursued her career in photography and TV media by moving to Los Angeles, California, and worked for several major studios, including Sony, Paramount, CBS, and MGM. Sister Betty accepted Christ in her youth and was baptized at 15 years old in El Paso, Texas, at Lawson Memorial COGIC. Once she relocated to California, she joined fellowship first with Greater Victory Temple (Seaside, California) under the late Bishop Hamilton, she then transferred to West Angeles COGIC under Bishop and Lady Mae Blake. During her time there, she supported the ministries of the Choir and Bible Study. Her Spirit came to life while working with the Skid-Row Street Ministry. After a one-year stay in Monahans, where she attended Holy Light COGIC (Pastor Reggie Brown), she moved to Amarillo and placed her membership at Pentecostal Temple under the leadership of Admin. Assistant Elijah B. Demerson. She immediately became active in Bible Band, Sunday School, and the Prayer Ministries after completing the New Members Class. Her heart’s desire was to be involved in the Evangelism Department, but God chose to call her home first.

Those that left this life before her include her father; brother, Pastor AJ Ramsey, Jr.; nephew, David Ramsey; and fur-baby, Squeeky.

She leaves to celebrate her life and sustain her memory: her mother; sister, Jean Ramsey; a sister-in-law, Jackie Ramsey; nieces, Monique (Paul) Duch, Jocelyn Ramsey, JaNeen (and Jenesis) Ramsey, Delilah and Bella Ramsey; nephews, AJ (Lupe) Ramsey III, AJ Ramsey IV, and Edgar Quintanilla; God-given brothers, Bobby (Diana) Bell and Tommy (Josephine) Young; Godchildren, Sabrina, Christina, Emaya, Shania, and Alex Cockerham, and Saphirra Johnson; and a host of other relatives and friends. She travels to heaven with the love from each church she placed her membership at as she followed the Lord’s calling, including COGIC #1 (Monahans), Lawson Memorial (El Paso), Greater Victory Temple (Seaside, CA), West Angeles (Los Angeles, CA), Holy Light (Monahans), Faith Temple (Monahans), Pentecostal Temple.
