Bernice Woods Obituary

Bernice was born August 30, 1940, to the late Timothy and Myrtle Lax. She attended grade school and was a graduate of Boyd High School. While in Fredrick, Lonnie met her husband, Lonnie Woods. They were married in 1958 and celebrated 61 years of marriage. To this union they were blessed with five children. Sis. Bernice was a proud member of New Hope Baptist Church for over 30 years and became a deaconess on September 29, 1991. She was a Sunday School adult teacher, a member of the mission ministry, and her and her late husband, Deacon Lonnie Woods, were janitors for the church for several years. She was a faithful servant to New Hope Baptist Church, until her departure. She is preceded in death by her husband, Deacon Lonnie Joe Woods; daughter, Angela Woods-Meyer; parents, Timothy and Myrtle Gains Lax, Sr.; brothers, Timothy Lax, Jr., Huldon Lax, Raymond Lax, and Ervin Lax; and sister, Ella Mae Stevenson. She is survived by: her children, Dale (Ginette) Woods of Clovis, New Mexico, Michael (Maureen) Woods of Savannah, Georgia, Greg (Regina) Woods, and Lisa Woods all of Amarillo, Texas; two sisters, Lillie B. Wilborn of Fredrick, Oklahoma, and Dorothy Smith of Denver, Colorado; seven grandchildren, Joshua Woods, DeRayle “Dd” Watkins, Donovan Woods, Harrison Meyer, Hailey Meyer, Harte Meyer, and Cheyenne Woods; two greatgrandchildren, D’Angelo Woods and Amara Watkins; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family, and friends.
