Obituary

Belinda Odetta Jones Ray was born June 9, 1951, in Amarillo Texas to Mrs. Mary Ball Jones and Mr. Tommy Jones.  Belinda attended North Heights Elementary School, Carver High School and Palo Duro School High School. She was in the Girl Scouts under Mrs. Helen Milligan and attended Upward Bound at West Texas State University.  She was a member of the Carver Dragons Marching Band and National Homemaker’s Association where she was able to speak to one of our captive army soldiers in Vietnam at the Peso Building once a month.  Belinda was a member of the Missionary Department at Carter Chapel CME Church, The Eastern Stars and The Best of Carver. 

After graduating high school in 1969, Belinda attended Amarillo College School of Nursing where she graduated in 1972.  She was employed as a nurse at St. Anthony’s Baptist Hospital, Fort Worth State School, Kaiser Permanente and The University of North Texas Health Science Center. 

Belinda married Odis Ray August 30, 1974, and they later became the proud parents of Kristen Ray born on September 21, 1980. They were both proud of Kristen for getting her degree at Sam Houston State University and later to become a professional educator in the Fort Worth area.

Belinda is preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Tommy Jones, six brothers, Tommy C. Jones, Jackie Lee Sowell, Linnie Charles Jones, Wendell Ventures, Richard Ventures, Charles Ventures: two sisters, Carolyn Jones and Avis Roberts.

She leaves to cherish her memories her daughter, Kristen Ray of Fort Worth, Texas; Odis Ray of Arlington, Texas; her four sisters, Mary Jones, Brenda Jones and Diane Jones of Amarillo, and Wanda Jones of Waxahachie, Texas; two nieces, Kylia Clampitt (Robert) of Amarillo, Belinda Chambers (Gary) of North Richland Hills, Texas, and four nephews, Chris Gregg and Michael Roberts of Amarillo, Brett Jones of Waxahachie, Texas and Tommy Clarence, Jr of Seattle, Washington; great niece and nephews, Payton Clampitt, Brennan Chambers, Bryce Jones and Caden Jones, special sister, Mary Nellie Payne, lifelong friends, Jeff and Nora McNeil, special Friends Jesse Robinson and the Martin family, and a host of family and friends.  ​​
