Anita Lewis Obituary

Anita Jo Brown-Lewis, On this special day, May 22,1971, was born to the late Twanda Brown and Jessie Hollie.  She married Donald W. Lewis.

Nita (Mee-Maw) was a known giver, teacher and server. From an early moment of my life she cared for me like a second mom. I was so lucky for my dad to have found a woman who was 100% genuine. She was the only one brave enough to allow me to learn to drive using her car, kind enough to provide anything I needed throughout my entire life, and patient enough to redirect me when I needed to think about things I said. I always knew if I was spending the night there was no question if church would be on Sunday. I remember Anita willing to serve wherever and however she was needed. She was a Soprano in the choir if we needed her to be. She would lead testimony with honor any day she was needed. If the entire church needed a ride to Tulia, Tx, Liberal, Kansas, or wherever to congregate, she would swing the van for us all the way down the highway. From the moment Anita joined our family there was no question that she was destined to be a Lewis. Our grandmother never had to ask for a ride to reunions or for errands, because she knew Nita would do whatever needed to be done. She had such a servant spirit that our family was blessed to have her caring for our eldest. She literally served until her last days. I’m so grateful and thankful that God blessed me to have a season with Anita Jo Lewis and I pray for peace and understanding for the family.

Anita was preceded in death by her mother-in-law, Missionary Mae Etta Lewis, her sisters; Karen, Mayrlyn, brother; Johnnie Ray, uncle; Gary Lawson, cousin; Kendrick Freeman, Jr. and son; Michael Barnes, and a host of friends and cousins.
