Alice Neal Smith entered eternal rest on December 3, 2020, at the age of 82.
Mrs. Smith was born on November 9, 1938, to Welmer “Bo" and Minnie Robinson in Jewett, Texas. In her young womanhood, Alice married the late Rev. Porter Smith and built a family together in Earth, Texas sharing 11 children. Her greatest joys came during time spent with her family.
Mrs. Smith was a God-fearing woman and a leader in her community, having served for 30 years on the Mission Board, head of the Usher Board, and as First Lady of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Earth, Texas. Mrs. Smith was an avid cook and dedicated 20 years as a chef to the local Lions Club. She also operated her own clothes laundering business.
A loving grandmother, she often welcomed her many grandchildren to her home in the summertime and on holidays. Upon her retirement, Mrs. Smith relocated to Amarillo to be near her children and grandchildren. She became a member of the Emmanuel Church of Amarillo where she served as Mother to the church and continued her years of service on the Usher Board.
Mrs. Smith is preceded in death by her parents Welmer “Bo” and Minnie Robinson; sister Johnnie Mae White; brother Welmer Robinson Jr.; sons Kenneth Smith, Porter Smith Jr., Victor Lee Smith, Charles Ray Smith; and her grandson Keith Smith.
She will be dearly missed and remembered by her four daughters Missionary Minnie Lax (Don), Sandra Taylor (Rev. Joe), Monica Smith all of Amarillo, Texas, and Minister Tammy Smith of Atlanta, Georgia; three sons Jimmie Smith (Brenda), Michael Smith (Connie) of Amarillo, Texas, and Ricky Smith of Woodward, Oklahoma; special nieces Kay and Carolyn White of Houston, Texas, Marylan White of Beaumont, Texas, and Pam White of California, as well as 18 grandchildren, 47 great grandchildren, and 10 great great grandchildren, along with a host of nieces, nephews, and countless friends whose lives she touched.
