David Mitchell, an Amarillo native and a member
of the " MITCHELLS" Family, one of the Amarillo Black Pioneer Families. He was Born September 16,1947 and transitioned; October 25, 2019.
He was one of 13 siblings; and attended Amarillo public school system. David was a Carver High School (Dragon). graduate where he excelled and represented his school as well as the city of Amarillo, in Basketball, and was honored in the Texas Panhandle Hall of Fame for his contributions in sports.
He was raised as a child in New Hope Baptist Church, Amarillo Texas ,and served along with his brother: Rev. Morris Mitchell, as Ushers, as royal Ambassadors, and the Baptist training union. David was a former member and Ordained Deacon at Mount Olive missionary Baptist Church , Amarillo Texas, Rev, Morris Mitchell pastor.
David 's secondary education was at Prairie View A&M University where he graduated with a degree in Engineering. David was Employed for the city of Amarillo as a Building Inspector. He was an employee of Levi Strauss in management. He was transferred to Las Vegas Division, where he retired. We honor and recognize David as a United States Veteran, he served in the United States Armed forces for two years.
David is preceded in death by, Julie Mitchell, Hershel and Lena Mitchell ,Brenda Jackson, Vera Daniels .
His survivors are, children; Andria Bonner, Eric Watson, three grand-children; Brian, Briaunte and Zalee Watson, four brothers; Morris (Nadine) Mitchell, Hershel Mitchell ,Fredrick Mitchell and Victor Mitchell, and six sisters; Carol Brown, Darlena Mitchell, Fransetta Crow, Betty Monroe, Margaret Parker, and Connie Mitchell. He has one Great niece- Donise Williams, 19 nieces and Nephews and many cousins.
